What this tool does

Pick a style - Realistic, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Superhero, or Villain - and generate names instantly. Each style draws from this site's own dedicated generator for that genre, so the names are exactly as considered as visiting that generator's own page directly; this hub just saves you from needing to know which page to look for first.

Generates character names across five genres from one page: Realistic, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Superhero and Villain.

Draws each style's names from that genre's own existing, dedicated generator - not a new, thinner name bank built just for this hub.

Lets you switch styles instantly without navigating to a different page.

Supports an optional seed so a specific batch of names can be reproduced or shared later.

Lets you download the current list as a .txt file alongside copying it.

How to use it

  1. Pick a style.
  2. Choose how many names you want and press generate.
  3. Copy or download the list, or switch styles and generate again.

Why use this name generator

Writers and game masters need names across genres, and one page that covers realistic, fantasy, sci-fi, superhero and villain names saves switching.

Why we built it

We built the character name generator to route into the dedicated generator for each of five genres. Try the fantasy name generator and the superhero name generator directly.

If your task goes further, try the D&D Name Generator and the Alien Name Generator.

A hub, not a separate generator

Why this exists alongside the dedicated genre pages, not instead of them.

This site already has a dedicated generator for realistic names, fantasy names, sci-fi-style invented names, superhero names and villain names - each already well suited to its own genre. This page deliberately stays simple: pick a genre, get names, generate more. It's the fastest way to compare a few genres quickly when you're not yet sure which fits your character, or to browse across all of them without bookmarking five separate pages.

Why the sci-fi style sounds like a brand name

The same short, invented-word engine, reused honestly rather than duplicated.

The Sci-fi style here draws from the same syllable-blending engine that powers this site's brand name generator - short, invented, pronounceable words like Zylix or Nexara. That's a deliberate reuse rather than an oversight: a lot of sci-fi character and callsign naming (in games, film and fiction) already leans on exactly that same short-invented-word pattern, so pointing the sci-fi style at an existing, already-tuned generator produces genuinely better results than building a thinner, separate word list just for this hub.

Assumptions and limitations

Frequently asked questions

How do I generate character names online for free?

Pick a style, choose how many names you want, and press generate - names appear instantly, drawn from that genre's own dedicated generator on this site.

Which styles are included?

Realistic, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Superhero and Villain.

Why use this instead of a specific genre's own page?

This hub is faster when you're comparing genres or aren't sure which one fits yet. Once you know, that genre's own dedicated page may offer finer controls.

Can I download the names I generate?

Yes - copy the list or download it as a text file.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Generation happens entirely in your browser - nothing is sent to a server.

Why does the Sci-fi style look like invented brand names?

Because it draws from the same short, invented-word engine as this site's brand name generator - a naming pattern that genuinely overlaps with how a lot of sci-fi character and callsign names are built.

Can I get the same batch of names again later?

Yes - enter any word as a seed before generating, and the same seed with the same style and count will reproduce the exact same list.
