Image Watermark
Add a text watermark to an image - free, no upload.
Your image is watermarked inside this page. It is never uploaded.
What this tool does
Upload an image, type your watermark text, and place it in a corner, the center, or tiled diagonally across the whole image - with adjustable size, opacity and color, previewed live before you download the result.
Adds text as a watermark in a chosen position: any corner, center, or tiled diagonally across the entire image.
Adjusts watermark size (relative to the image), opacity, and color independently.
Previews the result live as you adjust any setting.
Sizes the watermark text as a percentage of the image's shorter dimension, so it scales sensibly for both portrait and landscape photos instead of only matching one axis.
Rotates the tiled pattern -25 degrees and spaces each repeat using the text's own measured width and font height, so tiles line up without overlapping or leaving uneven gaps.
How to use it
- Choose an image.
- Type your watermark text and choose a position.
- Adjust size, opacity and color, then download.
Why use this tool
Watermarks deter casual reuse and credit the creator. Placing text at an adjustable size and opacity avoids ruining the picture.
Why we built it
We built the watermark tool with a tiled diagonal repeat mode, the standard way to protect an image you actually care about. Add other text with the add text to image tool and shrink the output with the image compressor.

Who this tool is for
- Photographers protecting previews
- Sellers and bloggers marking images
- Designers sharing drafts
When to use it
- Protecting photos you publish.
- Adding a name or website.
- Marking drafts or samples.
- Branding images.
Why tiled mode exists alongside single placement
A single corner watermark is easy to crop out; a tiled one isn't.
A single watermark placed in one corner protects an image only casually - anyone can crop that corner off and the rest of the image is watermark-free. Tiling the watermark diagonally across the entire image, at a low opacity so it doesn't overwhelm the photo, is the standard technique proofing and stock-photo sites actually use, because removing it means removing the whole image, not just a corner crop. This tool supports both: a subtle single-corner mark for casual attribution, or the tiled mode for images you actually want protected.
How the tiled pattern covers the whole canvas at an angle
Rotating text before tiling it means the simple row-and-column math has to cover more area than the visible canvas.
Rather than tiling upright text and rotating each tile individually, this tool rotates the entire canvas context by -25 degrees first and then fills it with rows and columns of text using the diagonal length of the canvas (width and height combined using the Pythagorean theorem) as the loop's boundary in every direction. That oversized loop area guarantees the rotated tiles still cover every corner of the actual image once the rotation is undone, instead of leaving untiled gaps near the edges the way a smaller, unrotated loop boundary would.
What you give it, and what you get back
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Input | An image and watermark text. |
| Controls | Position or tile, size, opacity and colour. |
| Output | A PNG with the watermark. |
Issues you may run into
| What you see | Why it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Logo watermark is needed | Only text is supported. | Use a design tool for logos. |
| Watermark is hard to read | Colour or opacity is poor. | Adjust colour and opacity. |
| File is large | PNG is lossless. | Convert to JPG. |
Assumptions and limitations
- This adds a text watermark only - image-based (logo) watermarks aren't supported.
- The result is exported as PNG, which is lossless but larger than a re-compressed JPEG for photographs.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a watermark to an image online for free?
Upload your image, type your watermark text, choose a position, and download the result - the preview updates live as you adjust settings.
Can I tile the watermark across the whole image?
Yes - choose 'Tiled (repeated)' as the position for a diagonal repeating pattern across the entire photo.
Can I use a logo instead of text?
Not currently - this adds text watermarks only.
What format is the result saved as?
PNG, which is lossless - the watermarked pixels are preserved exactly, at the cost of a larger file than a re-compressed JPEG.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Watermarking happens entirely in your browser - nothing is sent to a server.
Why is the tiled watermark diagonal instead of straight rows?
The pattern is rotated -25 degrees before tiling, which is harder to clone-stamp or crop around cleanly than a watermark repeated in plain horizontal rows.
How is the watermark's size determined?
It's set as a percentage of the image's shorter dimension (width or height, whichever is smaller), so the same percentage setting scales sensibly on both portrait and landscape photos.
