Net Worth Calculator
List your assets and debts to see your net worth.
What this tool does
Net worth is what you own minus what you owe. With assets of 315,000 and debts of 186,500, net worth is 128,500 and debts are about 59% of assets. List your assets and liabilities above, one per line as name, value.
Totals the assets and the liabilities you list.
Subtracts them and shows the debt-to-asset ratio.
How to use it
- List each asset as name, value.
- List each debt as name, amount owed.
- Read the net worth and ratios.
- Repeat on the same date each year to track progress.
Why use this calculator
Adds up the assets and the debts you list, one per line, and shows net worth, the debt-to-asset ratio and your largest asset. Income shows what you earn; net worth shows what you keep. Seeing the number once a year is a simple way to tell whether you are moving forward.
Why we built it
We built the net worth calculator to take plain lists of assets and debts and show the debt-to-asset ratio. Plan with the budget planner and reduce debt with the debt payoff calculator.
Who this tool is for
- People starting a financial plan
- Couples reviewing their finances
- Anyone applying for a loan
When to use it
- Starting a financial plan.
- Applying for a loan or planning a big purchase.
- Tracking progress each year.
- Checking the effect of paying off debt.
How it works
Net worth = total assets − total liabilities. Assets are things of value: cash, savings, investments, pensions, property and vehicles at what they could sell for. Liabilities are what you owe: mortgages, loans and cards. The debt-to-asset ratio is liabilities ÷ assets.
Example: savings 12,000, car 8,000, pension 45,000 and home 250,000 total 315,000; mortgage 180,000, car loan 5,000 and card 1,500 total 186,500. Net worth is 128,500.

A worked example
These are the values the calculator opens with, so you can see exactly what it does with them. Change any value on the page and the result updates; the figures below come from the same calculation.
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Currency symbol | $ (dollar) |
| Assets, one per line: name, value | Savings, 12000 / Car, 8000 / Pension, 45000 / Home, 250000 |
| Liabilities, one per line: name, amount owed | Mortgage, 180000 / Car loan, 5000 / Credit card, 1500 |
With those inputs, the calculator returns:
- Net worth: $128,500.00
- Total assets: $315,000.00
- Total liabilities: $186,500.00
- Debt-to-asset ratio: 59.2%
- Largest asset: Home ($250,000.00)
