Online Text Editor

A distraction-free online notepad that autosaves in your browser and never uploads a word.

Notepad

What this tool does

This is a plain online text editor - a notepad in your browser. Type or paste text and it autosaves as you go, so closing or refreshing the tab does not lose it. It shows live word, character, sentence and line counts, has find-and-replace and case tools, and lets you copy the text or download it as a .txt file. Nothing you type is ever uploaded; it all stays on your device.

A clean writing pad that autosaves to your browser as you type, with live word, character, sentence, paragraph and line counts.

Includes find-and-replace, case conversion, copy and .txt download - all on your device, with nothing uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Start typing or paste your text - it saves in this browser automatically as you go.
  2. Use the case buttons, find-and-replace, or watch the live counts as you write.
  3. Copy the text or download it as a .txt file when you are done.

Why use this editor

A clean place to write that never uploads your words and autosaves is useful for notes, drafts and scratch work. Browser autosave means nothing is lost if the tab closes.

Why we built it

We built the online text editor to autosave in the browser as you type, so a refresh never loses a note, and nothing is ever uploaded. Check your text with the word counter and clean it with the text cleaner.

Handy alongside this: the Number Extractor, the Text Case Converter and the Plain Text Converter.

Who this tool is for

  • Students and writers jotting notes
  • Developers keeping scratch text
  • Anyone who wants a private notepad

When to use it

  • Jotting notes or a quick draft.
  • Cleaning or counting words in a block of text.
  • Writing without distraction or an account.
  • Keeping a scratchpad between tasks.

Autosave, so nothing is lost

The reassurance a scratch pad should give.

As you type, the text is saved into your browser's local storage a fraction of a second later, and reloaded when you come back. Close the tab, refresh the page, or lose the connection, and your note is still there when you return. It is the quick-jotting safety net a throwaway notepad usually does not give you - without asking you to sign up or trust a server with your words.

Because it saves in this browser, your note stays on this device and this browser only - it will not appear on your phone or in a different browser. Download the .txt if you need it elsewhere. A private/incognito window will not keep it after you close.

Nothing is uploaded

Everything - the text, the counts, find-and-replace, the saved copy - happens entirely in your browser. Nothing you write is sent to a server, stored in an account or seen by anyone else. That makes it a genuinely private place to draft a message, paste something sensitive to reformat, or think out loud, in a way a cloud notepad cannot promise.

Counting and tidying as you write

The live counts cover words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, paragraphs and lines, plus an estimated reading time at a typical silent-reading pace - useful for staying under a limit on a bio, a post, an essay or an application. The case buttons switch the whole text to UPPER, lower, Title or Sentence case, or trim runaway spaces and blank lines, which saves retyping when you have pasted something messy. Find-and-replace does the repetitive edits, with an option to match case.

Assumptions and limitations

Frequently asked questions

Is my text saved automatically?

Yes. A fraction of a second after you stop typing, the text is saved into your browser's local storage and reloaded when you return, so a refresh or an accidental close does not lose it. A 'Saved' note confirms it. Download the .txt for a permanent copy.

Is anything I type uploaded?

No. Everything - the text, the counts, find-and-replace and the saved copy - stays in your browser and on your device. Nothing is sent to a server or tied to an account, which makes it a genuinely private place to write.

How do I count words and characters?

Just type or paste - the counts update live as you write, covering words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, lines and an estimated reading time. There is nothing to press.

Can I find and replace text?

Yes. Open Find & replace, enter the text to find and what to replace it with, optionally match case, and Replace all does the lot at once, telling you how many it changed.

Can I download my notes?

Yes. Download saves the text as a plain .txt file you can open anywhere, and Copy puts it on your clipboard. Since the autosave is per-browser, downloading is how you move a note to another device.

Will my notes still be here if I close the tab?

In a normal window, yes - the note is saved in this browser and comes back when you reopen the page. In a private/incognito window it is kept only until you close that window. To be safe across devices, download the .txt.
