Passport Photo Maker
Crop a photo to a standard passport size at 300 dpi and lay copies out on a 6 × 4 inch print sheet.
Your photo is cropped inside this page and never uploaded. Official photo requirements vary - this sizes the photo but does not check that it meets them.
Centre the face inside the oval, with the eyes near the middle line. Print at 100% scale, with no "fit to page".
What this tool does
A passport photo maker crops a portrait to the official size and lays copies out for printing. Choose your photo, pick the size - such as 35 × 45 mm or 2 × 2 inches - position the face using the guide, and download either the single photo or a 6 × 4 inch sheet. It sizes the photo; it does not check that it meets your country’s rules.
Crops your picture to the exact aspect ratio of the standard you choose, with zoom and position controls and a head-position guide in the preview.
Exports the single photo at 300 dpi, or a 6 × 4 inch sheet with as many copies as fit, ready to print.
How to use it
- Choose a portrait photo taken against a plain background in good light.
- Choose the photo size you need. Check the exact requirements for your document.
- Zoom and position the face inside the guide oval, with the eyes near the line.
- Set the background colour behind the picture if it is needed.
- Download the single photo, or the print sheet, and print it at 100% scale.
Why use this passport photo maker
Sets the size from a list of common standards - 35 × 45 mm, 2 × 2 in, 50 × 70 mm and 33 × 48 mm - or a custom size, at a true 300 dpi. Having passport photos taken costs money and time, and a lot of the cost is simply cropping to size and printing copies. If you already have a suitable photo, sizing it yourself and printing a sheet is quick - as long as you check it against the official requirements.
Why we built it
We built the passport photo maker with standard sizes and a 6 × 4 inch sheet at 300 dpi. Resize with the exact size resizer and check measurements with the image size calculator.
Who this tool is for
- Travellers and applicants preparing ID photos
- Parents with children's documents
- Small print shops
When to use it
- Preparing a photo for a passport, visa or ID application.
- Making copies for a form that needs several photos.
- Getting a photo to the exact pixel size an online form asks for.
- Printing a sheet at a local print shop or at home.
How it works
The pixel size is millimetres ÷ 25.4 × 300, so 35 × 45 mm is 413 × 531 pixels. The picture is scaled to cover that frame, then moved and zoomed within it by your settings.
The print sheet is 1,800 × 1,200 pixels (6 × 4 inches at 300 dpi). Copies are placed in a grid with a small gap, and the tool tries the photos upright and turned 90 degrees and uses whichever fits more.
Requirements for background colour, head size, expression, glasses and recency differ between countries and change over time. Check your issuing authority’s current rules - this tool cannot.

Issues you may run into
| What you see | Why it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Application rejected the photo | Background, lighting, head size or expression did not meet the rules. | Check the official requirements and retake if needed. |
| Printed size is wrong | The printer scaled the image. | Print at 100% or "actual size", not "fit to page". |
| Photo is blurry | The source is small or zoomed in a lot. | Use a larger, sharp photo and less zoom. |
| No white background | The photo was taken in front of a coloured wall. | Retake against a plain background; this tool does not remove backgrounds. |
Assumptions and limitations
- Does not check any country’s photo rules.
- Does not remove or replace the background.
- The head guide is a general guide, not an official template.
- Print results depend on your printer’s settings.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a passport photo?
It depends on the country: 35 × 45 mm is common across the UK, EU and Australia, and 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm) in the US. Check your issuing authority’s requirements.
How do I make a passport photo from my own picture?
Choose the photo, pick the size, centre your face in the guide, and download the photo or a print sheet. Print it at 100% scale.
Will it be accepted?
This tool cannot tell. Acceptance depends on background, lighting, head size, expression and other rules set by your authority.
Can I print the photos at home?
Yes. Download the 6 × 4 inch sheet and print it on photo paper at actual size, or take the file to a print shop.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. It is cropped in your browser and the files are saved to your Downloads folder.
Does it change the background?
No. It places your photo on the colour you pick only where the picture does not cover the frame. Use a plain background when you take the photo.
