PSI to Bar Converter
Convert psi to bar, or bar to psi, with the factor shown.
What this tool does
To convert psi to bar, multiply by 0.0689476. So 14.5 psi is 1 bar, 32 psi is 2.21 bar and 36 psi is 2.48 bar. To convert bar to psi, multiply by 14.5038. One atmosphere is 14.696 psi or 1.01325 bar. Enter a pressure above for the exact result.
Converts between pounds per square inch, bar, kilopascals, atmospheres, millimetres of mercury, pascals, inches of mercury using exact factors, and shows the factor used.
Updates as you type, and the swap button reverses the direction.
How to use it
- Enter the value in pounds per square inch, or press Swap units to start from bar.
- Pick another unit from the lists if you need a different one.
- Read the result and the factor beneath it.
- Press Copy to copy the result.
Why use this converter
Converts psi to bar (and back) with the exact pound-force and inch definitions, and lists kPa, atmospheres, mmHg and inHg. Tire pumps, compressors, diving gear and weather reports use different pressure units. Reading a European tire label on an American gauge means converting psi and bar every time.
Why we built it
We built the psi to bar converter with kPa, atmospheres, mmHg and inHg and a tire-pressure table. See other units on the pressure converter and check tire dimensions with the tire size calculator.
Who this tool is for
- Drivers checking tire pressure
- Divers, cyclists and compressor owners
- Engineers
When to use it
- Inflating tires to a pressure in another unit.
- Reading gauges on compressors and pressure washers.
- Following diving or brewing specifications.
- Converting weather or engineering data.
How it works
One psi is exactly 6,894.757293168 pascals (from the pound-force and the inch), and a bar is exactly 100,000 pascals. So bar = psi × 0.06894757 and psi = bar × 14.50377. One standard atmosphere is 101,325 Pa.
| Pounds per square inch | Bar |
|---|---|
| 14.7 psi | 1.01353 bar |
| 30 psi | 2.06843 bar |
| 32 psi | 2.20632 bar |
| 36 psi | 2.48211 bar |
| 60 psi | 4.13685 bar |
| 100 psi | 6.89476 bar |
What you give it, and what you get back
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Value | A number in the "from" unit. Decimals and negative numbers are accepted. |
| From and To | Any of 7 units: Pounds per square inch, Bar, Kilopascals, Atmospheres, Millimetres of mercury, Pascals, Inches of mercury. |
| Result | The converted value and the exact conversion factor. |
Issues you may run into
| What you see | Why it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Gauge vs absolute pressure | Gauges show pressure above the atmosphere. | Add about 14.7 psi (1.013 bar) for absolute pressure. |
| Tire label in kPa | Some labels use kilopascals. | Choose kPa in the units; 1 bar = 100 kPa. |
| Safety limits | A converter does not know your equipment. | Always follow the manufacturer's maximum. |
Assumptions and limitations
- Results are shown with practical rounding; the calculation itself uses exact factors.
- It converts a number between units - it does not know what the quantity is.
