SQL Query Generator

Build SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements from plain form fields.

SQL query generator
Generated query (editable)

What this tool does

A SQL query generator turns plain form answers - which statement, which table, which columns, which conditions - into a clean SQL statement you can run. Pick SELECT, fill the table and columns, add a WHERE condition or a JOIN, and the query builds itself with quoting handled correctly for text values. It exists because the syntax people trip over is never the interesting part: nobody needs help deciding what data they want, only in writing the commas, quotes and ORDER BY clause correctly the first time.

Builds SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements from plain form fields.

Adds joins, conditions, ordering and limits with the clause preview updating live.

Copies a clean query ready to run, with quoting handled for text values.

Keeps the generated SQL editable so you can take it further by hand.

How to use it

  1. Choose the statement type - SELECT to start.
  2. Enter the table name and the columns you want.
  3. Add conditions, joins, ordering or a row limit.
  4. Watch the query build in the preview box.
  5. Copy the SQL, or edit it directly before running.

Why use this tool

SQL syntax is unforgiving in small ways: a missing comma, an unescaped apostrophe in a name, a WHERE clause after ORDER BY - each one is a error message rather than a wrong answer, and each one costs a round trip to a client or console. Building the statement from fields removes the syntax risk entirely and leaves the actual decision - what to select, what to filter - where it belongs, in your head.

Why we built it

We built this SQL query generator because formatters assume you already have a working query, and the people who most need help never get that far. Generating each statement type from its own set of fields - INSERT listing columns and values together so the counts cannot mismatch - solves the mechanical failures, while the editable preview keeps the escape hatch open for anyone who wants to extend the query by hand. The SQL formatter then prettifies whatever you end up with.

For pulling query results into a spreadsheet, the JSON to CSV converter handles the export side.

Who this tool is for

  • Beginners writing their first database queries
  • Analysts who query occasionally and forget the syntax
  • Developers prototyping a statement before embedding it
  • Anyone who has lost ten minutes to one missing quote

What the generator builds

Statement types and their fields
StatementFields provided
SELECTTable, columns, joins, conditions, order, limit
INSERTTable, column list, value rows
UPDATETable, set pairs, conditions
DELETETable, conditions

A worked example

Choose SELECT, table orders, columns id, customer, total, one condition total greater than 100, ordered by total descending with a limit of 10, and the preview reads:

Generated query from the form answers
LineSQL
1SELECT id, customer, total
2FROM orders
3WHERE total > 100
4ORDER BY total DESC
5LIMIT 10;

The same form with INSERT selected produces the column list and values in matching order, so the counts cannot drift apart.

Assumptions and limitations

Frequently asked questions

What SQL does the generator write?

Standard SQL covering SELECT with joins, conditions, ordering and limits, plus INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements. The preview is editable, so dialect-specific details can be adjusted before running.

Do I need to know SQL to use it?

No. You answer what you want - which table, which columns, which conditions - and the syntax is written for you. Knowing SQL helps you take the generated statement further, but it is not required to get a working query.

Can it build joins?

Yes. Add a join with the target table and the matching condition, and the JOIN clause is inserted in the right place. Inner joins are generated; other join types can be edited in by hand in the preview.

Does it escape text values?

Yes. Single quotes inside text values are doubled the way SQL requires, so a name like O'Brien does not break the statement when you run it.

Can I edit the query after it is generated?

Yes - the preview is a normal editable box. Change anything by hand and copy the final version; the form fields are a starting point, not a cage.

Is the SQL query generator free?

Yes, completely free with no account and nothing uploaded. It runs entirely in your browser.
