Wordle Solver
Enter your guesses and tile colours to see the words that still fit.
Type your guess in each row, then click each tile to set its colour: grey (not in the word), yellow (in the word, wrong place) or green (right place).
What this tool does
Type each guess in a row, then click its five tiles to match the colours the game showed: grey, yellow or green. The solver keeps only the words that would have produced exactly that feedback for every guess, and ranks them by how common their letters are.
Reproduces Wordle's colouring for each guess against each candidate word.
Keeps the words that match your feedback exactly, and suggests a likely next guess.
How to use it
- Type your first guess in the first row.
- Click each tile until its colour matches the game: grey, yellow, green.
- Read the words that are still possible and the suggested guesses.
- Add your next guess and repeat.
Why use this tool
Takes your guesses and the colours Wordle gave each tile, and returns every five-letter word that still fits, with the duplicate-letter rules applied the way the game applies them. Sometimes a puzzle is stuck on a few letters and the real answer is one you have not thought of. Entering your clues and seeing what is left is a quick way to learn the pattern, and the tool never needs your account or your game history.
Why we built it
We built the Wordle solver to reproduce the game's colour rules for repeated letters and to rank what is left. Find other words with the anagram solver and the 9 letter word finder.
Who this tool is for
- Wordle players stuck on a puzzle
- People learning good starting guesses
- Friends settling a word argument
When to use it
- Stuck partway through a puzzle.
- Checking how many words fit your clues.
- Learning good starting and second guesses.
- Settling a friendly argument about a word.
How it works
The feedback follows Wordle's rule: first mark exact matches green; then, for each remaining letter in the guess from left to right, mark it yellow if the answer has an unmatched copy of that letter, and grey otherwise. A word stays in the list only if guessing it against that word would give exactly the colours you entered. Words are ranked by the sum of how many remaining words contain each distinct letter.
Example: guess "crane" against the answer "nacre" gives yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow, green. Guess "speed" against "abide" gives grey, grey, yellow, grey, yellow, because the answer has only one E.
The word list is a general public-domain five-letter list (ENABLE), not the list the game uses for its answers, so a valid answer can be missing and some obscure words appear. This tool is not affiliated with the game.
What you give it, and what you get back
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Guesses | Up to six five-letter words. |
| Tile colours | Click each tile to set grey, yellow or green. |
| Output | Number of words left, the best next guesses and the full list of possible words, with a copy button. |
Issues you may run into
| What you see | Why it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No word fits | A colour was set wrongly, or the answer is not in the list. | Check each tile against the game. |
| Too many words | Few clues so far. | Enter another guess to narrow it down. |
| Repeated letters look wrong | Yellow and grey are decided per copy of a letter. | Set a second copy of a letter grey if the answer has only one. |
Assumptions and limitations
- Five-letter words from a general list.
- No knowledge of the game's daily answer.
Frequently asked questions
How does a Wordle solver work?
It keeps only the words that would have given the same colours as your guesses.
What do the colours mean?
Green means the right letter in the right place, yellow means the letter is in the word elsewhere, and grey means it is not in the word (or there are no more copies of it).
What is a good first word?
One with common, different letters. The solver ranks suggestions by letter frequency among the words left.
Does it know today's answer?
No. It works only from the clues you enter.
Why is a word I tried missing?
The list is a general word list and may not contain every word the game accepts.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing leaves the page.
