GIF Maker

Add several pictures, set how long each shows, and download them as one animated GIF.

GIF maker

Your pictures are turned into a GIF inside this page and never uploaded.

What this tool does

A GIF maker turns a set of still pictures into an animated GIF. Add the pictures in order, choose how long each frame is shown and how many times it repeats, and download the GIF. This one is built in your browser, so the pictures are never uploaded.

Fits each picture to a common frame size, builds one colour palette for the whole animation, and encodes a GIF89a file with the frame timing you choose.

Shows the result in the page, lets you reorder or remove frames, and reports the number of frames, length and file size.

How to use it

  1. Add your pictures in the order you want them to appear.
  2. Set the time per frame and the width of the GIF.
  3. Choose whether it repeats forever, once or three times.
  4. Press Make GIF and wait for the preview.
  5. Press Download GIF.

Why use this GIF maker

Builds the animation in your browser with its own GIF encoder and one shared colour palette across frames, so colours do not flicker between pictures. A short animation is a lightweight way to show a sequence - a process, a before and after, a cartoon or a slideshow - in places that do not play video. Making it from stills is simpler than recording and converting a video.

Why we built it

We built the GIF maker with its own encoder and one shared palette across frames, so colours do not flicker between frames. Convert clips with the video to GIF converter and set frames from stills with the heart locket GIF maker.

How it works

Every picture is fitted into a frame the size of the first picture’s proportions at your chosen width. A colour palette of 256 entries is built from all frames together using median cut, and every pixel is mapped to its nearest palette colour.

The frames are then encoded as a GIF89a file with LZW compression and the delay you set, in hundredths of a second.

GIF is limited to 256 colours, so photographs can look slightly posterised or grainy. For smooth photographic video, a short MP4 is a better format.

Assumptions and limitations

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a GIF from pictures?

Add the pictures in order, set the time per frame and the width, and press Make GIF. Then download the animation.

How many pictures do I need?

At least two - a GIF with one frame is just a still image. You can add up to 60.

Why do my GIF colours look rough?

GIF allows only 256 colours per animation, so photographs lose some smoothness. A simpler image or a smaller size helps.

Are my pictures uploaded?

No. The GIF is built entirely in your browser and saved to your Downloads folder.

Can I set the speed?

Yes. The time per frame slider sets how long each picture is shown, from 40 milliseconds to 3 seconds.

Can I make the GIF play only once?

Yes. Choose Once or 3 times under Repeat, or Forever for a loop.
