PDF Pages per Sheet (N-up)
Choose a PDF and how many pages go on each sheet.
Your PDF is rearranged inside this page and never uploaded.
What this tool does
Choose a PDF and the number of pages per sheet - 2, 4, 6, 8 or 9 - and the tool builds a new PDF with that many pages laid out on each sheet, in reading order. Pick A4, Letter or A3, portrait or landscape, and a margin. Pages are placed as vector content, so text remains selectable.
Embeds the pages of your PDF and places them on a grid on each new sheet.
Scales each page to fit its cell, keeping proportions, with an optional border.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF.
- Pick pages per sheet, sheet size and orientation.
- Set the margin and decide on borders.
- Press Build and download PDF.
Why use this tool
Places 2, 4, 6, 8 or 9 pages of a PDF on each sheet as real vector content, so text stays selectable and the file stays small. Slide decks and long documents waste paper at one page per sheet. Putting several pages on each sheet gives compact handouts and review copies that are still readable.
Why we built it
We built the pages per sheet tool to place pages as vector content, so text stays selectable and the file stays small. Select pages first with extract PDF pages and merge with merge PDF.
For a neighbouring job there is also the PDF Booklet Maker.
Who this tool is for
- Students printing lecture slides
- Presenters making handouts
- Anyone saving paper
When to use it
- Printing lecture slides or presentation handouts.
- Making a compact proof copy of a long document.
- Saving paper and toner.
- Making thumbnails of every page on a contact sheet.
How it works
The pages are embedded into a new document with pdf-lib and drawn into the cells of a grid: 2 per sheet is two side by side on landscape, 4 is 2 × 2, 6 is 3 × 2, 8 is 4 × 2 and 9 is 3 × 3. Each page is scaled to fit its cell with the margin as the gap.
Pages are not rasterised, so text stays selectable and the output is usually similar in size to the input.

Issues you may run into
| What you see | Why it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The file could not be read | It is encrypted or damaged. | Unlock it first with the Unlock PDF tool. |
| Pages look small | Many pages on one sheet shrink each page. | Use fewer pages per sheet or a larger sheet. |
| Mixed page sizes | Each page is scaled to fit its cell. | This is expected; margins may vary. |
Assumptions and limitations
- Fixed grids of 2, 4, 6, 8 or 9.
- No booklet imposition (page reordering for folding).
- Form fields and links on pages are not kept.
