What this tool does

Set a start and end date, choose how many dates you want, and optionally restrict to weekdays only or forbid repeats, then press Generate. Useful for scheduling a random meeting day, picking a survey date, running a classroom probability exercise, or any time you need a genuinely random date within a real range.

Generates one or many random dates uniformly within a custom start/end range, using the browser's cryptographically secure random source.

Offers a genuine weekdays-only filter that excludes Saturdays and Sundays from the pool before picking, not just a note to ignore weekend results.

Supports a no-repeat mode so a batch of dates never includes the same date twice.

Computes the entire day range in UTC integer days rather than local time, so a range spanning a Daylight Saving Time change still contains exactly the right number of eligible days.

Without "No repeated dates" turned on, draws each date independently, so the same date can legitimately come up more than once in a batch - just like rolling the same number twice on a die.

How to use it

  1. Set a start date and end date.
  2. Choose how many dates you want, and toggle weekdays-only or no-repeat if needed.
  3. Press Generate to get your dates.

Why use this generator

Test data, schedules and puzzles need dates drawn fairly within a window. Doing that by hand creates clusters.

Why we built it

We built the random date generator to build the full pool of eligible days first, excluding weekends when asked, then pick uniformly. Check the days with the day of the week calculator and count between them with the date difference calculator.

Who this tool is for

  • Developers and testers needing sample dates
  • Teachers making date exercises
  • Game designers

When to use it

  • Creating test data.
  • Picking a random day for an event or a task.
  • Making date puzzles.
  • Sampling days in a period.

Why weekdays-only is a real filter, not a re-roll

The weekend days are removed from the pool before picking, not filtered out afterward.

A common shortcut for a 'weekdays only' feature is to generate a fully random date and simply discard it if it lands on a weekend, re-rolling until a weekday appears. That works, but it's wasteful and can behave oddly for very narrow ranges. This tool instead builds the complete pool of eligible days for the given range up front - excluding Saturdays and Sundays first when that option is checked - then picks uniformly from that already-correct pool, so every valid day has an equal chance regardless of how the calendar happens to fall.

Why every date is computed in UTC, not your local timezone

Working in whole UTC days sidesteps a class of bug that Daylight Saving Time can cause in local time.

Your start and end dates are first converted into plain UTC day numbers rather than local JavaScript Date objects, and all the range-building and random picking happens on those integers before a result is converted back to a calendar date at the very end. That matters because local-time date arithmetic can go subtly wrong across a Daylight Saving Time change: when clocks move forward or back, a date constructed from local time can end up an hour off from where you'd expect, occasionally landing on the wrong side of a day boundary and throwing the day count off by one. Working entirely in UTC integer days sidesteps that class of bug completely, so a range that happens to span a Daylight Saving Time change still contains exactly the right number of eligible days.

Assumptions and limitations

Frequently asked questions

How do I generate a random date online for free?

Set a start and end date, pick how many dates you want, and press Generate - the results appear instantly.

Can I exclude weekends?

Yes - turn on "Weekdays only" and Saturdays and Sundays are removed from the pool before a date is picked, not filtered out afterward.

Can I generate multiple dates without repeats?

Yes - turn on "No repeated dates" to draw dates without replacement, similar to the random number generator's no-repeat mode.

How random are these dates really?

They come from the browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, the same quality used for security-sensitive purposes.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Generation happens entirely in your browser - nothing is sent to a server.

Can the same date come up twice in one batch?

Yes, unless you turn on "No repeated dates". Without it, each date is picked independently, so getting the same date twice in a batch is possible by chance, just like rolling the same number twice on a die. Turn on "No repeated dates" to draw without replacement instead.

Does Daylight Saving Time ever throw off the date range?

No - the whole range is computed in UTC integer day numbers rather than local time, so a range that spans a Daylight Saving Time change still contains exactly the right number of eligible days.
