What this tool does
To unlock a PDF, open the file, enter its password if it needs one to open, and press Unlock. This tool decrypts the pages with the password you give it and copies them into a new file that has no password and no restrictions. It cannot guess or crack a password you do not have.

How to use it
- Choose the locked PDF, or drop it into the box.
- If it asks for a password to open, type it in. Leave the box empty if the file opens normally but will not let you print, copy or edit.
- Press Unlock.
- Read the result message - it confirms whether the file was encrypted.
- Press Download unlocked PDF.
Why use this unlocker
Produces a genuinely unencrypted file by copying the pages into a fresh document, because loading a locked PDF and re-saving it keeps the lock. Passwords and restrictions are useful until you are the one stuck with them - a bank statement you must open every month, a form that will not let you print, a file whose password you know but whose recipient does not. Removing the lock from a file you are entitled to use is a normal task.

How it works
There are two locks in PDF. A user password is needed to open the file at all. An owner password only sets permissions - printing, copying, editing - on a file that opens without a password. This tool supplies the password if there is one, reads the pages, and writes them into a new document that carries no encryption.
The new document is built from scratch rather than by re-saving the original, because re-saving a decrypted PDF keeps its encryption dictionary and the file would still ask for the password.
Only unlock documents you have the right to modify. A wrong password simply fails - nothing here tries other passwords.

Assumptions and limitations
