Word to PDF Converter
Convert a simple Word document to PDF - free, no upload.
Works for simple documents - headings, bold, italic and plain paragraphs. Images, tables, headers/footers and page numbers from the original file are not carried over.
What this tool does
Choose a .docx file and get back a PDF with headings, bold and italic text preserved, properly wrapped and paginated - built for simple documents, not complex layouts with images or tables.
Converts a .docx document to PDF, preserving heading levels, bold and italic formatting.
Wraps text to fit the page and paginates automatically as content runs long.
Reads formatting straight from the document's own underlying XML (word/document.xml inside the .docx ZIP), the same source data Word itself uses, rather than approximating it from plain text.
Shows a paragraph count immediately after choosing a file, so you can see the document was read successfully before committing to a full conversion.
How to use it
- Choose a .docx file.
- Download the converted PDF.
Why use this converter
Sharing a document as PDF keeps layout fixed, but not everyone has Word. A simple converter handles text documents quickly.
Why we built it
We built the Word to PDF converter to rebuild paragraphs as real, wrapped and paginated PDF text with headings and bold and italic kept. Convert text files with text to PDF and pull text out of a Word file with DOCX to text.
For a neighbouring job there is also the PDF to Word.
Who this tool is for
- Students submitting assignments
- Job seekers sending résumés
- Office staff sharing simple documents
When to use it
- Converting a text-based Word document.
- Sharing a letter or notes.
- Making a fixed copy.
- Quick conversions without Word.
Why this is scoped to simple documents
A fully faithful Word-to-PDF conversion needs to reproduce far more than text and basic formatting.
Word documents can include images, tables, headers and footers, page numbers, columns, and precise layout choices that a from-scratch rebuild would need to replicate exactly to look identical to the original. This tool takes a more modest, honest approach: it extracts each paragraph's real text and formatting - headings, bold, italic - and lays it out cleanly on new PDF pages, which covers the large share of documents that are genuinely just formatted text, without pretending to replicate everything a full desktop word processor's print-to-PDF feature can do.
How heading sizes and mixed formatting are actually decided
The rules the converter follows when a paragraph's style and its individual runs of text disagree.
Each paragraph carries its own style - Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, or plain Normal text - read directly from the document's paragraph style tag, and each heading level gets a distinct, progressively smaller font size than body text. Within a heading, every word renders bold with no italics, regardless of how the original run was formatted, since a heading already carries enough visual weight on its own and mixed styling inside a heading title is rare in real documents. Ordinary body paragraphs are different: each individual run keeps its own real bold and italic exactly as set in the source file, so a sentence with only one word in bold comes out with only that word bold in the PDF, not the whole paragraph.
What you give it, and what you get back
| Item | Details |

| Output | A PDF with headings, bold and italic kept. |
| Pagination | Automatic. |
Issues you may run into
| What you see | Why it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Images and tables are missing | They are not carried over. | Use Word's own export for those. |
| Old .doc is rejected | Only .docx is supported. | Save as .docx first. |
| Layout differs | Layout is simplified. | Check the result. |
Assumptions and limitations
- Images, tables, headers, footers, columns and page numbers from the original document are not carried over.
- Only modern .docx files are supported - older .doc files (Word 97-2003) use a different, non-ZIP format entirely.
- Page layout is rebuilt fresh (standard margins, word-wrapped text) rather than matching the original document's exact page breaks and spacing.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a Word document to PDF for free?
Choose your .docx file and download the converted PDF - headings, bold and italic text are preserved.
Will images or tables be included?
No - only text content with heading, bold and italic formatting is converted.
Will the page breaks match the original document?
No - text is re-wrapped and paginated fresh on standard page margins, so exact page breaks won't match the source document.
Does this work with old .doc files?
No - only modern .docx files, which are ZIP-based. Older .doc files use a completely different binary format.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser - your file is never sent to a server.
Will bold or italic in just part of a sentence be preserved?
Yes - each individual run of text keeps its own real bold and italic exactly as set in the source document, so only the specific words formatted that way in Word come out formatted that way in the PDF.
Why does a heading always come out fully bold?
Headings render as a single bold weight regardless of the source run's own formatting, since a heading's own larger size already carries enough visual weight and mixed styling inside a heading is rare in practice.
